ACT Show Jumping Canberra Classic report & results Aug 9th and 10th 2014

~~The ACTSJC Canberra Classic saw over 1000 rounds jumped across 3 rings on Aug 9/10 at Equestrian Park in the heart of the nations’ capital. Well supported by local sponsors, an amazing committee and a huge team of volunteers, the winter competition provided riders with an excellent weekend of jumping. The club was able to use local officials for all rings, course designers Brad Longhurst, Greg Vella and Greg Ring provided top class tracks that were judged by Michael Archer in ring 1, Cathy Murphy and Linda Thane in ring 2 and Tom Allen and Gregory Caulder in ring 3. With clear skies, super going and flash well-presented gear, and top commentary for Kaye Johnson and Steph Davies our local and interstate riders had a great time. Catering by the Vietnam Veterans, and the popular coffee van Cafe2U ensured all the volunteers and ring crew and competitors were well fed. The Jigsaw Body Mechanics open six senior bar on Saturday was a highlight, where the master Grant Hughes popped 1.60m to take  1st and 2nd place on Blackall Park Atlantis and Emmaville Define  and  nudge out the amazing Fiona De La Mezzo into third who jumped 1.50m on her Thoroughbred Seal the Deal and the awesome welsh pony B my Bri with Franny Barnard who cleared 1.40m. The Modern Aspect Tiling Junior Six Bar on the Sunday was just as special, seeing many really young riders have a go. The equal winners were Maddie Sinderberry riding Fernhill Zin Zan and local Sarah Davies and the wonderful Mike Manly.
The Barastock Open Grand Prix on Sunday was taken out by local rider, sponsor and farrier Clint Beresford and Emmaville Jitterbug. Beresford has recently returned to competition after a shoulder injury, and this win showed that the RIO 2016 squad partnership of Beresford and Emmaville Jitterbug have not lost any form from their break. The Horseland Amateur classes were hotly contested on Saturday with Fiona De Mezzo taking top honours riding Seal the Deal and on Sunday the JNSW Amateur Series Class was won by Shannon Breen riding Oaks Sharko. The Emmaville Performance Horses Junior Grand Prix was won by Pli Kane riding Ego Landmark.
Many Club members worked so hard behind the scenes to run this massive winter weekend. The impressive sponsor list was made up of many local businesses whose owners and family members rode in the event, making it a friendly social affair for all those involved.
